Workshops @ The Falls Retreat

Our workshops are designed for amateurs looking for some great tips for your garden or even foodies wanting to experience the paddock to plate ethos of The Falls Retreat.  Run by our superb team we have gardening guru, Nicki Murray-Orr, chicken whisperer, Emma Walters and we bring in the experts whenever we can. Each course is fun and offers an interactive workshop in the garden and the coup which is followed by an informal meal in our rustic Bistro barn. 

What’s included:

Morning tea on arrival – giving everyone a chance to have a chat and get to know each other

Interactive session in the garden

Light lunch - gourmet wood fired pizzas and salads shared in our rustic barn. Includes glass of house wine, house beer or home made soda

Gardening Workshop @ The Falls Retreat - Friday 6th October 2017

“KIDS IN THE GARDEN"

Get growing with your kids this school holidays!


We are holding another family fun gardening workshop aimed at inspiring kids and their parents to get growing vegetables and flowers at home. Our last session was a great success with our resident gardener Nickie, helping children identify various herbs and vegetables in the garden. This was followed by some harvesting and planting of seedlings. There is also first hand experience of composting, info on how a worm farm works and the importance of good soil.

Date: Friday 6th October

Time: 9.30am – 11am aimed at kids aged 7+ and their family. Mums, dads, grandparents or older siblings all welcome!

What to bring: Gum boots or suitable footwear and raincoat in case of inclement weather and a sense of humour!

Cost: Its just $25 pp ( same price for kids and adults) and children must be accompanied by an adult.

What’s included:

Interactive session in the garden

You could even stay for a light lunch after the session or a fresh cooked pizza! Book a table to avoid dissapointment.

Grow your own amazing crop of healthy organic veggies from seed this season.

In this workshop Nicki teaches the fundamentals of propagation so that you can raise your own fruit and veggies from seed or cuttings. Focusing on what can be planted at this time of year, she gives her usual invaluable tips and techniques including planting by the moon, potting on and seasonality.

This is a fun and interactive workshop where you get hands on experience in the glasshouse, learning how to get your own seedlings started from scratch to ensure your veggie garden is bursting at the seams this season.

Growing Healthy Veggies $75

Your Day:

9.30am arrival. Start the day by meeting Nicki and our other attendees and share introductions over a tea or coffee with tasty treats provide by The Falls Retreat kitchen

10am – 11am Gather around in the rustic Bistro Barn to hear Nicki’s advice on how to grow seedlings. She will cover all the fundamentals of propagation, including ideas for growing under cover if you don’t have a glasshouse. She will teach you how to grow nutrient dense healthy veggies from seed with tips on planting by the moon, how to handle seedlings, hardening off and seasonality.

11am – 11.30am Head into the Falls Retreat glass house for an interactive session – here you get to see behind the scenes and have a hands on experience with planting seedlings.

11.30am  –Lunch which consists of delicious wood fired pizzas and fresh salads using produce harvested from the gardens, plus a drink to accompany your meal. Nicki joins for you for lunch so this is your opportunity to pick her brains and ask questions which apply to your own garden.

“GROWING HEALTHY SOIL"

Our gardening workshops are designed for amateur gardeners looking for some great tips for your garden or even foodies wanting to experience the paddock to plate ethos of The Falls Retreat.  Run by our gardening guru, Nicki Murray-Orr, we offer a fun, and interactive workshop in the garden which is followed by an informal meal in our rustic Bistro barn. 

In this workshop Nicky will be looking at what we need to be doing in the garden to get ready for planting, covering topics such as composting and garden planning and design. John Morris, founder of Agrissentials will be giving his expert advice on soil nutrition and looking at how to achieve the ideal soil and the different products we can use to achieve that.

Composting and worm farming.

Reduce food and garden waste by starting your own compost and worm farm.

Aimed at complete beginners or those needing a refresher, Nicki will take you through the fundamentals of how we can use our food and garden waste for maximum output from a compost or worm farm. Covering all areas from why we use them, the pros and cons of different types, recommendations on what works best and the key elements of a creating and maintaining a healthy worm farm or compost.

She will cover the basic essentials of where to site and what types work best, her recipe for creating and maintaining a healthy compost and worm farm and how their output can be used throughout the garden to grown nutrient dense health veggies

11am – 11.30am Head into the Falls Retreat kitchen veggie gardens for an interactive session looking at our compost and worm farm and discussing how these principals can be applied at home

11.30am  – Back to the Bistro Barn for a delicious pizza sharing lunch which includes salads using produce harvested from the gardens and a drink to accompany your meal.

Nicki joins for you for lunch so this is your opportunity to pick her brains and ask questions which apply to your own compost or worm farm.
