The Karangahake Gorge has so many things to see and do with or without the kids.

When we get asked "What is there to do in the area?" we find ourselves smiling. The main reason for this smile is because this area has so much to offer that people are often surprised. The other is the fact that the gorge has managed to stay somewhat of a hidden treasure to most of NZ, so when it is discovered it is never forgotten.

The main attraction is the HAURAKI RAIL TRAIL. This cycle pathway runs from Paeroa to Waihi and conveniently runs along the bottom of our doorstep, which means you can cycle either way.

The route to Paeroa takes in the dramatic scenery of the gorge with it's waterfalls and rapids and of course the tunnels and bridges.

The route to Waihi is more of a rural cycle ride taking in the countryside. It is very picturesque and peaceful. You can even cycle to Waihi and then get the train back!

Both routes take about an hour one way so plenty of time to take in the scenery and delicious food we have on offer. To find out more watch this Hauraki Rail Trail Video or CLICK HERE
