Emma and Brad first arrived in New Zealand 10 years ago, they visited what was then called Goose Farm a small holding bursting with potential. They had a vision and a dream and slowly they moulded and shaped their home and business into what you experience today - The Falls Retreat.

The vision is to create a place that offers a great all round experience - charming accommodation, a beautiful setting, warm hospitality and rustic, delicious food. Brad is passionate about the food he creates while Emma is committed to creating a sustainable and welcoming environment.

General Manager

We are looking for a mature and experienced hospitality professional who has previously owned or managed a hospitality business. This exciting opportunity to be part of the FOH Bistro team requires you to have a minimum of two to three years' experience in a similar role.

  • Ability to develop and motivate our FOH team
  • LCQ / General Managers Certificate required

The General Manager will be responsible for all aspects of operations and business performance relating to the Bistro. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Managing our daily policies and procedures - everything from bookings, payments, sequence of service, delay set up and breakdown. As such you need to lead by example and be able to run the floor.
  • Recruitment and Management of staff including hiring, training and performance management
  • Stock management for beverages and FOH supplies
  • Maintain and monitor FOH costs (wages and purchases) and complete profit analysis

Sous Chef

We are looking for a Sous Chef to join our kitchen team with view to evolve.  Applicant must have a minimum of 3 years experience in a restaurant environment and experience of working a wood fired or stone oven is advantageous.


  • Take charge in Executive Chef / Head Chef's absence.
  • Produce all items related to the designated part of the menu to the establishment's standards in order to satisfy diners' expectations.
  • Plan and organise prep lists and workflows.
  • Ensure equipment and work environment are operational.
  • Assist with menu development and follow recipes.
  • Control quality and costs.
  • Communicate with and support staff.
  • Impart knowledge and train staff to encourage high standards.
  • Uphold morale in the kitchen.
  • Manage kitchen meetings in conjunction with Executive Chef / Head Chef.
  • Manage staff roster in conjunction with Executive Chef / Head Chef.
